Drawing Fundamentals I
(Summer 2013)

Banish any fears about your ability to draw by learning the basics! This course is an introduction to the language of drawing and how it is used to communicate what and how we observe the world around us. Students will focus on 1) shapes and edges, 2) proportion and measurement, 3) light and shadow, and 4) the illusion of space or perspective.

Materials for Class
  • Charcoal – 1 box of Académie Fusains HB Medium ®Nitram or any brand of vine charcoal 
  • Pencil - Pure woodless graphite HB (Preferred brands: ® General's, ®Koh-I-Noor, ® Faber-Castell PITT) 
  • Eraser - Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick (® Paper Mate, no other brand substitutes, please!)
  • Paper – heavyweight (at least 70 lbs or 80 lbs) any size equal to or larger than an 11" x 17" sheet, loose-leaf, sketchbook, or sketch pad 
  • Sandpaper - Fine grit from 300 - 400 works best for sharpening charcoal or pencils. 

All supplies can be found at an art supply store. We will review the supply list on the first day of class if you have any questions.
